Memorial Day weather: Wind gusts expected in Sacramento area, Delta

Weather update

Wind gusts of up to 25 mph could hit Sacramento just in time for that Memorial Day barbecue.

Kate Forrest, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento, said a weather system from the Pacific Northwest is behind the stronger winds, which are possible Monday afternoon and evening. The gusts could reach as high as 30 mph in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta area.

ā€œWe are seeing elevated fire conditions through the Valley as a result of these gusty winds,ā€ Forrest said.

The winds could also down tree branches and blow around items on a person’s property that aren’t secured. Sacramento was expected to reach 79 degrees Monday, according to the weather service.

Winds reaching 35 mph are also possible in other parts of Northern California, including the Red Bluff and Chico areas.
