Gas leak in Jackson closes Sheriff’s Office, prompts evacuations in Amador County

Police tape at crime scene

A gas leak caused by construction activity prompted evacuations in Amador County on Friday, the Sheriff’s Office announced.

Mandatory evacuations orders were issued Friday for the area between Highway 88, Mission Boulevard, Center Street, and Broadway in Amador County after construction activity caused a gas leak. The front office of the Amador County Sheriff’s Office closed to the public, and deputies said they would resume normal operations once the incident was resolved.

“Please rest assured, all public safety employees and emergency responders remain on duty and available to help those in need,” a spokesperson for the office wrote in a Facebook post.

There was no estimated time for officials to lift the evacuation order. The Jackson Police Department opened a temporary evacuation center at the Jackson Civic Center, 33 Broadway.
