Motorcyclist killed in I-80 crash near Norwood Avenue, Sacramento CHP says

Roadway fatality

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday after colliding with two vehicles on eastbound Interstate 80 near Norwood Avenue in North Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to the CHP’s North Sacramento office, the motorcyclist was splitting lanes shortly before 7:40 a.m. when the rider failed to see a stopped vehicle ahead. The motorcyclist collided with the vehicle and was thrown from the motorcycle. The rider was then struck by another vehicle, the CHP said.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene and was expected to be identified in the coming days by Sacramento County coroner’s officials.

The crash prompted the closure of three lanes as authorities investigated but lanes have since reopened.

A spokesperson for the CHP’s North Sacramento office said investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
