- A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck about 7 miles north of Redwood Valley in Mendocino County at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, triggering nearly 657,000 MyShake alerts and knocking out power to roughly 8,000 PG&E customers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and state emergency officials. County officials reported six to eight preliminary injuries within the first hour.
- Folsom High School quarterback Brody Rudnicki verbally committed to play for Cal on a full athletic scholarship Wednesday morning. The 6-foot-2 rising star started just twice in varsity football but led the Bulldogs to a CIF State championship with a 42-28 win over Cathedral Catholic.
