River Drowning

Authorities recovered the body of an Olivehurst man who drowned Friday in the Yuba River, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Yuba County deputies received reports of a possible drowning just upstream of Simpson Lane Bridge in the Yuba River around 12:20 p.m., a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a social media post. Along with Linda and Marysville fire officials, deputies briefly searched the scene and located a man in approximately 10 feet of water. While they attempted life-saving measures after removing him from the river, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said that the victim is a 34-year-old man from Olivehurst, though they did not reveal his identity, seeking to notify his next-of-kin.

The drowning remains under investigation.
