Elk Grove lowers pet adoption fees to $25 in July to help find 250 pets a home
The Elk Grove Animal Shelter is lowering adoption fees for pets throughout July in an effort to find 250 furry friends new homes in honor of the nation’s 250th birthday.
As part of the city’s “250 Adoptions for America’s 250th” campaign, adoption fees will be reduced to $25 per dog or cat all month, according to a news release.
Every pet adopted through the initiative will be spayed or neutered, be up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and licensed with the City of Elk Grove, according to the release.
Typical adoption fees range from $100 to $150 for dogs, depending on their age and size, according to the city’s website. Cat adoption fees range from $40 to $75, depending on the cat’s age. Pets 8 years and older, as well as adopters 65 and older, qualify for a reduced $25 adoption fee.
“Our goal extends far beyond a reduced adoption fee,” Sarah Humlie, the city’s animal services manager, said in the release. “This campaign is about bringing our community together to create 250 life-changing success stories for pets waiting for a family. As our country celebrates 250 years, we’re celebrating the opportunity to give animals the freedom to begin a new chapter in a loving home.”
The Elk Grove Animal Shelter, 9150 Union Park Way, is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Pets can also be adopted at the shelter’s adoption center inside PetSmart, 8215 Laguna Blvd.
