An injured fawn trapped in a Loomis ditch got a second chance thanks to a rescue by South Placer Fire District firefighters.

Firefighters assigned to Engine 20 responded to a report of a young deer trapped in a Nevada Irrigation District ditch, according to officials. The fawn had suffered injuries and was unable to get out on its own.

Firefighters lifted the fawn to safety before transporting it to Placer County Animal Services, where it was receiving treatment for its injuries.

In a social media post, the fire district that serves Loomis, Granite Bay and parts of Penryn and Newcastle said the call was “simply deer” to their hearts.
