Several North Lake Tahoe beaches will be closed Saturday evening during the July 4 holiday due to what law enforcement officials described as unruly crowds of visiting teenagers.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced several beaches, including Skylandia and Bristlecone, will be closed after 4 p.m. Saturday, according to a Facebook post.

Sheriff’s officials said the closure comes after large groups of teenagers gathered at the beaches the two nights leading up to July 4. These crowds, many from out of town, contributed to littering, increased traffic and underage drinking, according to the post.

“Please do not come to the area tonight,” the Placer County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement. “The beaches will be closed, and anyone attempting to access them will be turned away.”

Earlier this week on the south end of the lake, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department in El Dorado County reminded residents about alcohol consumption and open containers at beaches, saying it has seen an increase of calls for service related to alcohol use.
