1 dead in plane crash at Sutter County Airport in Yuba City

Plane crash

One person was killed when a homebuilt plane crashed early Thursday at Sutter County Airport in Yuba City, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office said.

The small aircraft, a Van’s RV-4, went down at 7 a.m. at the airfield at 100 Airport Road, according to Sierra Pedley, a Sutter County Sheriff's Office spokesperson. It was not immediately clear whether the plane crashed during takeoff or landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. The victim's name has not been released.

The Sutter County Coroner's Office will notify the victim's next of kin. FAA records show the single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft had been in operation since 1994 and was registered to a Yuba City resident.
