Mild daytime temperatures and cool nights will be accompanied by an increasing chance of rain by the weekend in the Sacramento area.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies Wednesday, with a high near 75. South-southwest winds will be around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Clouds will move into the Central Valley by late afternoon. Forecasters say it will be mostly cloudy Wednesday night, with an overnight low of around 57 degrees.

There’s a 20 percent chance of rain on Thursday, and the likelihood of rain increases to 40 percent on Friday and 50 percent on Saturday.

Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southeast winds around 6 mph.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. South-southwest wind around 6 mph. Precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday night: A 20 percent chance of rain before 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Light southwest wind.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. North-northwest wind around 6 mph, becoming south in the morning.

Friday night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58.

Saturday: A 50 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71.

Saturday night: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71.
