Cooler weather to stay today
The recent spate of temperate weather will continue today in the Sacramento area. The high temperature is expected to hit near 81 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service. There will be a south southwest wind 7 to 11 mph.

Greek Festival begins at convention center
The 52nd annual Greek Festival begins a three-day run at the Sacramento Convention Center. There is free admission from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Learn composting during class
The UCCE Master Gardeners of Sacramento County are scheduled to teach residents to turn yard waste into “gardener’s gold” during a composting class from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Rancho Cordova Library, 9845 Folsom Blvd. The class focuses on the basics of composting and includes setting up a compost bin, types of compost bins and tips for success.
Attention, drivers in midtown
The Sacramento Police Department will be conducting a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on 21st Street near Capitol Avenue. It is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and run for five to seven hours. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment with officers checking drivers for proper licensing.

- The free Friday Night Concerts series in Rancho Cordova concludes with an event from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Village Green Park, 3141 Bridgeway Drive.
