Kudos to: Natomas Unified School District
Accomplishment: Creating a free community food locker
Details: Called Joey’s Food Locker, the effort will help needy people get canned or dried goods. The food locker will be staffed by the district’s Adult Transition Program, which helps men and women 18 to 22 years old overcome mental or physical challenges by teaching job and independent living skills.
Kudos to: Jacob Callanan
Accomplishment: Saved a woman from drowning
Details: The city of South Lake Tahoe recognized Callanan for his quick thinking. On July 25, Callanan was working at Ski Run Boat Company when he heard sounds of distress coming from the lake. Callanan swam to a woman and brought her to the shore, where he attempted first aid before paramedics arrived.
Kudos to: Sacramento County
Accomplishment: First-place honors for website
Details: The county received e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government Best of the Web Award. The win was earned for a variety of website features. Among the features is the “How Do I?” section that provides access to information on how to apply, request, pay, locate and report issues.
