Kudos to: Dr. Pirko Maguina, plastic surgeon
Accomplishment: Recognized for volunteer efforts
Details: The official magazine of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons spotlighted Maguina, who has traveled abroad more than 30 times to operate on children with burns, cleft lips and other conditions. Maguina provides plastic surgery at Shriners Hospitals for Children – those with congenital abnormalities as well as youngsters with wounds and scars.
Kudos to: Alex Pizarro, correctional officer at California State Prison, Sacramento
Accomplishment: Honored along with other California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation employees for bravery and service
Details: Pizarro received the Silver Star for saving a fellow officer trapped in a cell with three inmates armed with a weapon.
Kudos to: Sacramento High School Class of 1950
Accomplishment: Donated $800 on Big Day of Giving
Details: The reunion committee voted to divide and donate funds left from previous reunions to Sacramento Hospice Consortium, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Sacramento, Alzheimer’s Aid Society of Northern California and City Front Street Animal Shelter.
