Cooling trend after today

One more day of hot weather is forecast for Sacramento before welcome cooling arrives in Sacramento. The high of 97 degrees is forecast today. Temperatures are expected to cool significantly by Tuesday when the afternoon high is predicted to peak in the high 80s.

San Juan Unified’s college night

It’s college night in the San Juan Unified School District, where students can talk to college admissions representatives and gather information about more than 130 colleges and universities. Seminars will feature speakers on financial aid, student-athlete compliance, community college opportunities and writing essays for college applications. The event starts at 6 p.m. at Rio Americano High School, 4540 American River Drive, Sacramento.

‘Run Free’ screening

The Buffalo Chips Running Club will host a screening of “Run Free: The True Story of Caballo Blanco,” a documentary about ultrarunning legend Micah True. The event is at 7 p.m. at Crest Theatre, 1013 K St., Sacramento. Tickets at the door are $15.

Wynton Marsalis performance

▪ The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, led by noted trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, performs at 8 p.m. at the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall, 9399 Old Davis Road, on the UC Davis campus. For more information, go to www.mondaviarts.org.

Story Time for kids

Story Time at the California State Railroad Museum continues with “Good Day Sacramento” news anchor Ken Rudulph scheduled to read “Hey! Get Off Our Train” by John Burningham. The readings start at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the east theater at the museum, 125 I St. in Sacramento.
