Weekend air show begins tonight

The 10th annual California Capital Airshow opens with the event’s first night show. Presented by Sacramento County, in partnership with the city of Rancho Cordova, the three-day air show at Mather Airport features the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Jet Demonstration Team, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet. Friday’s Airshow After Dark, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., features a combination of jets, pyrotechnics, performances and entertainment. A display of fireworks will conclude the night. Gates are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with flying performances scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. both days. Go to www.californiacapitalairshow.com for more information.

Official discusses repair scams

A representative from the Public Affairs Office of the Contractors State License Board shares information about scams relating to home repair, phone solicitations, insurance, Medicare, mail/foreign lottery fraud and more from 10 to 11 a.m. (doors open at 9:45 a.m.) at the Folsom Public Library, 411 Stafford St. Those attending can receive answers to their questions and obtain assistance if they have been scammed.

Sutter’s Fort restoration continues

Major restoration continues at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, with the exterior wall restoration scheduled to begin from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at 2701 L St., Sacramento. Crews will begin to scrape the cracking and peeling paint down to the brick to prepare the historic masonry for preservation efforts.

Book sale at Arden-Dimick Library

Friends of the Arden-Dimick Library holds a large community book sale the next two days. More than 8,000 books will be offered at low prices from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the library’s Community Room, 891 Watt Ave., Sacramento.

  • The Cosumnes River College Art Gallery will showcase three Northern California artists: Douglas Herr, Gregory Kondos and Ken Waterstreet. A reception for the exhibition, “Exploration of Natural Perspective,” begins at 6 p.m. at 8401 Center Parkway, Sacramento.
  • Art Farm 2015, an exhibition inspired by the farms and farmlands of Yolo County, features works by 65 area artists. An artists’ reception is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Gallery 625, 625 Court St., Woodland.
  • “Chicago Steve” Barkley headlines the Comedy Under the Stars event at the Fair Oaks Veterans Memorial Amphitheatre, 7991 California Ave.
