Accomplishment: Created 71 caps for newborns at Marshall Hospital in Placerville
Details: The volunteers from White Rock Village, a Mercy affordable housing property, plan to create more caps for infants and also donate caps to adult cancer patients.
Kudos to: UC Davis student inventors
Accomplishment: Took the grand prize in a global competition
Details: The challenge entailed building biological systems or machines. The UC Davis team built a palm-sized biosensor to quickly evaluate the chemical profile of olive oil. The creation is a prototype for accurately detecting low-grade or adulterated olive oil.
Kudos to: Roseville High School’s Eye of the Tiger newspaper
Accomplishment: A first place in National Scholastic Press Association competition
Details: The student newspaper took the top spot in the Newspaper Broadsheet category. Hundreds of schools submitted newspapers to the Best of Show fall competition in Washington, D.C.
