Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today:
Calmer weather ahead: Now, that was a rainstorm. Teased earlier in the season by weather systems that would split or weaken as they approached the coast, the tropical weather maker that hit Northern California head-on Wednesday produced some healthy rainfall amounts. A total of 1.84 inches fell in downtown Sacramento, much of it in the early morning and then during the afternoon. Look for scattered showers today.
Office tower planned near arena: A major California builder with deep Sacramento ties has submitted plans to the city for a 26-story headquarters and office tower on J Street across the street from the planned downtown arena and hotel.
Salmon rescue: California officials are rescuing hundreds of Chinook salmon trapped in the Yolo Bypass, the massive flood-control channel that parallels the Sacramento River. Fish become trapped in the bypass every year because there’s no outlet for them.

Ex-Army Depot sold: The old Sacramento Army Depot, once home to the largest computer manufacturer in America and now an industrial park, has been sold. The city of Sacramento sold the property to U.S. National Leasing of Sacramento for about $9 million, said Assistant City Manager John Dangberg.
Plaza restaurant to close: Café Soleil, the popular and quirky eatery in downtown Sacramento’s Cesar Chavez Plaza, is closing.
Center still out: The Kings announced center DeMarcus Cousins will not play this weekend because of a viral infection, following a trip to the hospital Tuesday night. Cousins has missed the past three games with what had been called a virus after he woke up sick last Friday in San Antonio. The Kings host the Indiana Pacers on Friday and the Orlando Magic on Saturday
