Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today:

Chance of showers: The storm door remains open, but won’t bring too much rain today. There will be a 40 percent chance of showers before 10 a.m., then partly sunny, with a high near 65. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Areas of fog after 10 p.m. is expected.

Assist from Aerojet: Rancho Cordova’s Aerojet Rocketdyne played a critical role in Friday’s successful launch and re-entry of NASA’s Orion spaceship. The unmanned flight launched from Cape Canaveral, Fla., was needed to test systems that will ultimately take astronauts farther into space than has ever been attempted, including to Mars and near-Earth asteroids.

Verdict for railroad engineer: A Sacramento Superior Court jury awarded a $5.6 million verdict Friday to a former Amtrak railroad engineer who sustained a beating when he was attacked on the job by a West Sacramento street gang.

Big garage sale: The state is having a garage sale today and the public is invited to bid on a variety of items. The state Department of General Service’s auction, which begins at 10 a.m. at surplus warehouse at 1700 National Drive, includes surplus state items, property seized by the California Highway Patrol and this-and-that confiscated by the National Transportation Security Administration. Among the items up for bid are bracelets, rings, knives, televisions, office furniture, cell phones, laptops, adult diapers, tires, a flute, a skateboard, bikes, neck pillows and a tricycle.

Tree lighting on Fulton: The eighth annual Fulton Avenue tree lighting ceremony today will illuminate more than the 60 foot white fir in Tognotti’s Auto World parking lot, 2509 Fulton Ave. at El Camino Avenue. The event begins at 5 p.m.

Working overtime: Carl Landry’s layup after a rebound with 0.8 seconds remaining lifted the Sacramento Kings to a 102-101 win Friday night over the visiting Indiana Pacers.
