Thunderstorms ahead

The second major storm system of the fall continues Monday with thunderstorms and more rain predicted. Low temperatures are forecast to drop near 40 and even lower the rest of the week, although the rains are expected to clear by Tuesday.

KVIE shows disabled veterans documentary

KVIE Public Television screens a new documentary film, “Debt of Honor: Disabled Veterans in American History,” at 6 p.m. at the KVIE Studios, 2030 W. El Camino Ave., Sacramento. The film by Emmy Award-winning director Ric Burns examines how the American government and society regarded disabled veterans throughout history, beginning in the aftermath of the Revolutionary War and continuing through today’s conflicts in the Middle East. The free event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., then the film screening and a discussion.

Highway 65 traffic alert

Motorists can expect separate overnight closures of northbound and southbound Highway 65 in Rocklin this week because of bridge work, according to the state Department of Transportation and the city of Rocklin. Crews will be removing a temporary support structure for construction of the new Whitney Ranch Parkway interchange overpass over Highway 65 between Twelve Bridges Drive and Sunset Boulevard. Signs will direct motorists to the detour route. The schedule for the closures:

▪ Northbound Highway 65: Closed from 11 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday. Northbound motorists will be directed to take West Sunset Boulevard to Industrial Avenue to Twelve Bridges Drive to Highway 65.

▪ Southbound Highway 65: Closed from 11 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday. Southbound motorists will be directed to take Twelve Bridges Drive to Industrial Avenue to West Sunset Boulevard to Highway 65.

Weather or unexpected events may prolong or delay the work. The construction work is part of a $9.5 million project by the city and Caltrans to extend Whitney Ranch Parkway and build a new interchange at Whitney Ranch and Highway 65.

Physician talk focuses on student sleep deficiency

Dr. Charles Czeisler speaks about the epidemic of sleep deficiency and its effects on student success and the role of school start times. The event, sponsored by the Davis Joint Unified School District, is open to the public and takes place at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Theatre, 203 E. 14th St., Davis.

Senior computer class

The Cyber Senior Computer Class series continues with a session on email. Seniors will learn how to create an email address, check email and write an email message. Light experience is necessary. The event, sponsored by the Yolo County Library and the West Sacramento Friends of the Library, is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. in the computer lab of Arthur F. Turner Community Library, 1212 Merkley Ave., West Sacramento.
