New Rocklin mayor is veteran councilman

Rocklin got a new mayor Tuesday night with the City Council selecting a longtime councilman to fill the largely ceremonial position.

George Magnuson, who was first elected to the council in 1991, was unanimously chosen to become the city’s mayor, his sixth term in that capacity, according to the city of Rocklin’s website. The new mayor moved to Rocklin in 1977 and works at the state Department of Housing & Community Development.

Greg Janda was chosen to fill the vice mayor position. He was first elected to the council in 2012.

The mayor is chosen each year by the City Council, and there are no term limits, according to Karen Garner, city spokeswoman.
