Wind tears through Galt outdoor market, injures 11

Wind gusts in southern Sacramento County on Wednesday afternoon tore apart vendors’ tents at the weekly Galt Market and injured 11 people, including three who were taken to the hospital.

All injuries were minor, “cuts and bruises,” said George Apple, fire marshal with the Cosumnes Fire Department. The afternoon wasn’t especially windy, and the gusts seemed to suddenly spring up about 3 p.m., he said.

The Galt Market is a large open air market held each Tuesday and Wednesday, with the tents of 400 vendors covering 10 acres, the city of Galt says on its website.
