Morning storm dumps a third of an inch in Sacramento

A morning downpour resulted in one-third to a half an inch of rain Friday in the Sacramento region.

Showers could linger into Saturday in Sacramento. A high of 60 degrees is predicted.

It appears Sunday will be the driest weekend day. After patchy morning fog, partly sunny skies are expected with a high of 62 degrees.

Forecasters are keeping an eye on a weather system expected to move through Northern California late Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day. As the holiday gets closer, forecasters will have more certainty about possible rain for Sacramento and snow in the Sierra.

Friday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 57. South southeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between 0.1 to 0.25 inches possible.

Tonight: A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 50. Southeast wind around 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than 0.1 inches possible.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers before 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. South wind around 5 mph.

Saturday night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 10 p.m. Patchy fog after 10 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: Patchy fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 62. Light and variable wind.
