Select post offices in Sacramento, Yolo and Butte counties are offering passport services seven days a week.

People who need passports for identification purposes or to travel outside the United States can take advantage of walk-in hours, 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily, at U.S Postal Service Mega Passport Centers.

The passport centers have trained staff members and expanded hours to make it easy and convenient to apply for a U.S. passport, according to a Postal Service news release.

Postal Service products, including Priority Mail Express with tracing and insurance, photos and photocopies also are available at the centers, which are designed like travel agencies.

Mega Passport Centers in Sacramento County are at the Citrus Heights post office, 6330 Fountain Square Drive, Citrus Heights; the Sacramento post office, 2000 Royal Oaks Drive, Sacramento; and the Laguna postal store, 9105 Bruceville Road, Elk Grove.

In Yolo County, the seven-day-per-week services are offered at Industrial West Sacramento post office, 3775 Industrial Blvd., West Sacramento; and in Butte County at the Chico midtown post office, 141 W. Fifth St., Chico.

The U.S. Department of State has issued more than 15 million passports and passport cards so far this year, according to Postal Service officials, who advise applying at least several months before a planned trip.
