Missing 77-year-old man found in Truckee

The search for a 77-year-old Citrus Heights man ended Thursday night when he was located in Truckee, according to Citrus Heights Police.

A family member had reported James Mengel was missing as of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Nicole Garing said that his family believed Mengel was driving alone. He had been seen at Holy Family Catholic Church in Citrus Heights on Old Auburn Rd. near Sunrise Blvd., but then never returned home.

The California Highway Patrol early Thursday had issued a Silver Alert, which aims to provide quick information on missing personals, particularly the elderly or anyone with mental disabilities. Officials did not disclose information regarding Mengel’s condition.

Citrus Height Police Department at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday reported through Twitter that Mengel was in good health when he was located.
