Sun made for a merry Christmas in the Sacramento region, while snow was seen as a gift in the mountains.

Skiers at Lake Tahoe resorts found a couple of inches of snow had fallen in time for holiday skiing, but in the metropolitan areas, the day was sunny even as the breezes made it seem chillier than the thermometer’s reading.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday should be sunny throughout the region after patches of early-day fog lift with daytime highs in the Sacramento area in the mid-50s. Overnight lows will dip to just above freezing. Winds are forecast to calm down after early Saturday morning.

Similar patterns should be repeated through Monday, with temperatures cooling even more by Tuesday.

There is a slight chance of snow in the Tahoe area on Monday.
