The chilly temperatures are here to stay.

A dry air mass from Canada is moving across Northern California, bringing frosty conditions overnight and cool temperatures during the day, according to the National Weather Service. The Sacramento region saw its first frost advisory of the season today with morning temperatures dropping to 34 degrees in downtown. Today’s high temperature is predicted to reach 55 degrees.

“It’s not really all that cold,” said weather service forecaster Tom Dang. “We’re not accustomed to it because we’ve been warm so long. The normal low this time of year is actually 38 degrees.”

Dang said the cool temperatures will remain in the area for the next week and warned New Years revelers to put on heavy jackets.
