Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today:
No room for residents: It was early summer, and the Hotel Marshall, long Sacramento’s residence of last resort for felons, addicts and the indigent mentally ill, was preparing to close. The Sacramento Kings had approval to construct a new arena a block away, and if all went according to plan, the vermin-infested building at the corner of Seventh and L would be transformed into a market-rate hotel. First, 57 long-term residents had to go. But where?
Clear, chilly: Temperatures have dropped into the 30s around Northern California for the first time this winter, and lots of folks think that’s just fine after months of heat and drought. A dry air mass from Canada is moving across Northern California, bringing frosty conditions overnight and cool temperatures during the day, according to the National Weather Service. Patchy fog and ice before 11 a.m. today. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 55 degrees, the wether service reports.
