Today in Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Dec. 23
‘Wild Nights and Holiday Lights’
Wednesday is the final night this holiday season for “Wild Nights and Holiday Nights” at the Folsom Zoo. The annual event at 403 Stafford St. in Folsom features thousands of colorful lights on the zoo’s buildings and grounds. Santa will visit, as will zoo mascot Santa Paws. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is $5 per person; parking is free.
Music at the Capitol
A holiday musical performance will take place in the state Capitol rotunda from 11 a.m. to noon. This is the final performance of the state Capitol holiday music program, which has offered daily shows since Dec. 1.
Good day for shopping, travel
Get out and about today because skies are expected to be dry. A cold, showery storm is expected on Thursday before skies clear for Christmas. Travel in the Sierra will be difficult Thursday.
‘Scrooge’ musical finale
The last performance of the musical “Scrooge,” featuring Rodger Hoopman, is scheduled at 8 p.m. at the Chautauqua Playhouse, 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael. The musical is a dramatic and humorous retelling of “A Christmas Carol.” Go to www.cplayhouse.org for more information.
Watch your Z’s and Q’s
The Unofficial Davis Scrabble Club will play from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at Crepeville, 330 Third St. All levels are players can drop by to play a game. Bring a board if possible. The event is free.
Things to do
- The Rancho Cordova Library, 9845 Folsom Blvd., will host Garden Fun for Kids, presented by Yisreal Farm at 11 a.m. The program will teach younger children what to grow and how to help plant.
- The Crocker Art Museum’s “Story Trail” will continue from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pick up a special storybook at the admission desk. Free with admission.
