Fire crews free sailboat stuck under Sacramento’s I Street bridge

It was smooth sailing for a local sailor until a trip down the Sacramento River came to an abrupt and embarrassing halt: the sailboat got caught under the I Street bridge.

Sacramento Fire Department crews helped pull the boat out from under the bridge, where it lodged for about an hour Wednesday afternoon due to high waters and a sail that just couldn’t clear the overpass, officials said.

No one was hurt and traffic on the bridge was unaffected.

Once extricated, the sailor docked his boat near the Rio City Cafe in Old Sacramento about 4 p.m., according to the fire department.
