Today in Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Tuesday
El Dorado eyes widening efforts to get satellite college campus
The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors will consider broadening the county’s efforts to recruit a branch campus of an accredited college or university. Supervisors in March gave conceptual approval to pursue a UC Davis branch or satellite campus, but the county chief administrative officer and treasurer-tax collector now recommend searching beyond UC Davis. The county hopes that such a campus could help generate economic growth and hiring. The board is scheduled to begin discussing the matter after 11 a.m., Board of Supervisors Meeting Room, 330 Fair Lane, Building A, Placerville.
Placer County addresses safety, cleanliness concerns
The Placer County Board of Supervisors will consider ordinances banning sales of “graffiti implements” to minors, imposing new restrictions on panhandling, and prohibiting public urination or defecation. The ordinances respond to growing concerns from residents about the “degradation of safety, cleanliness and community character.” The board meets at 9 a.m., County Administrative Center, 175 Fulweiler Ave., Auburn.
Placer County discusses regulation of medical marijuana
Placer County supervisors also will discuss regulating medical marijuana at the county level. Under recent state legislation, counties must assert their local authority over medical marijuana regulation by March 1 or give control for such matters to the state. The discussion is also on the agenda for the board’s 9 a.m. meeting.
