Triple homicide suspect returns to court

Grigoriy Bukhantsov, accused in the 2012 slayings of his sister-in-law and two of her children at their Rancho Cordova home, is scheduled to return to Sacramento Superior Court for a hearing on Friday, five months after a jury found Bukhantsov fit to stand trial in the killings. Bukhantsov, 22, could face the death penalty or life in prison if convicted of the crimes. He remains in custody at Sacramento County Main Jail, where he has been held since his October 2012 arrest.

Free skiing for early birds

Alpine Meadows offers a free Learn to Ski & Ride package to the first 50 beginners to arrive at 10 a.m. Friday. The package includes a two-hour lesson taught by professional instructors in small groups, plus lift ticket for the day, and ski or snowboard equipment rental packages for adults and teens 13 and older.
