Memorial for former Sacramento County Sheriff Glen Craig on Thursday
A memorial service for former Sacramento County Sheriff Glen Craig will be held Thursday.
The service will begin at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 8925 Vintage Park Drive, east of Elk Grove Florin Road.
Craig, who served three terms as Sacramento County’s 33rd sheriff, from 1987 to 1999, died Dec. 26. Prior to his election as sheriff, he was commissioner of the California Highway Patrol from 1975 to 1983 and director of the California Department of Justice’s Division of Law Enforcement from 1983 to 1986. Craig would have turned 82 Thursday.
A public viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove.
Motorists traveling in the area of Vintage Park Drive on Thursday should expect heavy traffic before and after the service, and they are encouraged to seek alternative routes, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department news release.
