Phil Serna elected chairman of Sacramento County Board of Supervisors
Phil Serna was elected Tuesday as chairman of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.
On a motion by Supervisor Susan Peters, the board voted unanimously to select Serna as chair and Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan as vice chair.
Traditionally, the board has voted for a new chair annually so each supervisor can get a chance to fill the leadership role.
Serna, 46, replaces Jimmie Yee as chair. Yee retired last month and was replaced by former Sacramento City Unified school board member Patrick Kennedy, who was sworn in Monday.
Serna is starting his second term, representing much of the city of Sacramento. The son of the late Sacramento Mayor Joe Serna Jr., Phil Serna was first elected to office in 2010.
