Small-business workshop scheduled

Assemblyman Ken Cooley, D-Rancho Cordova, hosts a free Small Business Resource Workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Regional Water Authority, 5620 Birdcage St., Suite 180, Citrus Heights. Topics include how to start a small business, manage and grow a business, and increase access to capital. There will also be a discussion of legislative issues. Showers today, rain tonight

Showery weather Friday is expected to lead to increased rain tonight as the last of a series of storms moves through Northern California. After tonight’s rain a high pressure system sets up, leading to a dry period next week.

Heroes luncheon in Woodland

The 15th annual Red Cross Heroes Luncheon honors residents of El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties who have performed extraordinary acts of courage, such as saving lives, performing first aid or CPR, or providing support to military veterans. The celebration is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Woodland Community Center, 2001 East St.

Citrus Heights motorists beware

The Citrus Heights Police Department Traffic Unit has scheduled a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint from 8 a.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location within the city. According to the the Police Department, DUI checkpoints are a proven resource in reducing the number of people killed and injured in alcohol or drug-involved crashes.
