A.M. Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Thursday

Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today:

Sunscreen alert: Leave that umbrella at home, but don’t forget the sunscreen. Fair skies continue today as Northern California continues to be under the influence of a high pressure system. No rain is in the forecast for the entire week. So, wash that car without fear that rain will spoil your efforts.

Fatal shooting: A gunman shot and killed a woman in an El Dorado Hills carjacking, then crashed the stolen vehicle into the backyards of nearby residences. It was the first homicide in the affluent suburb in 41/2 years.

Signatures filed: Local Democratic Party volunteers and community activists filed 1,400 signatures Wednesday in an attempt to force Twin Rivers Unified to hold an election to fill its Area 5 trustee seat, potentially reversing a recent appointment to the school board.

Councilman resigns: Terry Lamphier, a former Nevada County supervisor facing charges of possessing child pornography, resigned from the Grass Valley City Council on Wednesday, two days after taking the oath of office.

Boffo boutique: Teacher Art Apodaca Rodriguez launched his Shoe Daca boutique with the thought that profits from the store would help him buy shoes for needy kids at California Middle School in Sacramento, but the business now has become his full-time job, writes Sacramento Bee Inside Business columnist Cathie Anderson.
