January 2015 Sacramento weather looking like January 2014

With no rain forecast through nearly mid-month, January 2015 is shaping up just like Januanry 2014.

Today’s forecast is as dry as a David Letterman monologue, but not funny at all. The National Weather Service expects mostly sunny skies with a high temperature of 61 degrees on Thursday.

That’s pretty much been the forecast since Christmas Eve, the last time Sacramento got any rainfall. And the weather service is calling for dry skies all the way through Wednesday.

A lack of rainfall this month mirrors January of a year ago when only 0.20 inches of rain fell in Sacramento. The piddling January 2014 rain came in the last three days of the month.

It is not out of the norm for the Sacramento region to experience a couple of consecutive weeks of dry winter weather, but prolonged dry spells are troubling as they occur during the multi-year drought.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Thursday: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Light and variable wind.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. Light north northwest wind.
