San Juan Unified to discuss refugee student needs

San Juan Unified School District trustees are expected to hear a report on meeting the needs of refugee students, including those seeking asylum, and Amerasians from Vietnam. This year, refugees in the district number 802, a nearly fourfold increase from four years earlier. The majority speak Arabic, Farsi or Pashto. The open session starts at 6:30 p.m. in district headquarters, 3738 Walnut Ave., Carmichael.

Report to update dental care for Sacramento children

Sacramento County supervisors will hear highlights from an updated report by Barbara Aved Associates on Medi-Cal dental care for Sacramento children. Among findings of the project begun five years ago: Only 40 percent of children on Medi-Cal managed care plans in Sacramento County use the dental services they’re eligible for, compared to 52.5 percent statewide. Sacramento is the only county in California where Medi-Cal consumers are required to enroll in a managed care plan for dental services. The meeting will be at 700 H St., Suite 1450, Sacramento. The hearing is set for 9:40 a.m.

Sacramento council to discuss marijuana rules

The Sacramento City Council could decide whether to impose a 45-day moratorium on commercial marijuana cultivation while considering rules that would allow pot businesses to grow in greenhouses or indoor spaces in agricultural, industrial or manufacturing zones. A city planner said a moratorium should ensure that the city complies with new medical marijuana regulations being established in California. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 915 I St., Sacramento.

Folsom mayor to deliver annual address

Folsom Mayor Steve Miklos will deliver his State of the City address at tonight’s City Council meeting. Miklos also gave the address last week at the Folsom chamber’s luncheon. He’ll deliver it again near the start of the council meeting, about 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 50 Natoma St.
