Weekend warms up
Warm spring weather kicks into gear Saturday, with a high near 82 degrees forecast for Sacramento, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will be lighter than Friday, with 6 to 9 mph north northwest breezes predicted. Sunday is expected to be even hotter, with temperatures forecast to reach near 86 degrees, according to the weather service.
Picnic Day celebrated in Davis

The 102nd Picnic Day in Davis features more than 200 events throughout the campus, including exhibits, shows, competitions, demonstrations, entertainment, animal and athletic events, Student Organization Fair, Multicultural Children’s Fair and more. A parade will kick off the festivities at 9:30 a.m. at the grandstands on North Quad Avenue across from Wickson Hall. All events and parking are free. State hosts garage sale at warehouse
The state of California is having a spring garage sale beginning at 10 a.m. in a surplus warehouse at 1700 National Drive in Sacramento’s North Natomas area. A pre-auction preview occurs from 8 to 9:45 a.m. The range of items is varied and sometimes somewhat odd. Items for auction include an X-ray machine, pool sticks and helicopter parts. There are other items that are more mundane, including hand carts, printers, laptops and furniture. Some of the items come from the federal Transportation Management Security Administration, confiscated from air travelers or left behind at checkpoints by passengers. Bike tour of Elmhurst planned
Sacramento District 6 City Councilman Eric Guerra hosts an Elmhurst Bike Tour from 9 to 11 a.m. The ride begins at the Coloma Community Center, 4623 T St. Other participants scheduled to take part include Assemblyman Kevin McCarty, D-Sacramento, and members of the Elmhurst Neighborhood Association and Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates.
Saluting wax-spinning record stores
Record Store Day, an annual international celebration of music, independent record stores and the record-collecting community, is celebrated by Dimple Records and Sacramento radio station K-ZAP. The celebration takes place at Dimple stores at 2433 Arden Way, and at 16th Street and Broadway. The band Destroy Boys will perform from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the 16th and Broadway store and Bellygunner will perform from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the Arden Way store.
