Caltrans officials, crews to pick up trash

State Department of Transportation Chief Deputy Director Kome Ajise, members of the executive management team and maintenance workers across the state will be picking up trash Thursday to bring attention to the litter problem on California highways. In celebration of the 47th anniversary of Earth Day, Ajise and other Caltrans executives are scheduled to pick up litter at 6:30 a.m. on the Broadway onramp to southbound Highway 99. According to Caltrans, the department spent more than $76 million last year on litter removal, collecting enough from freeways to fill more than 9,500 garbage trucks.

Fun Run at Sacramento State

The Sac State 5K Fun Run winds its way through California State University, Sacramento. The event begins at 6 p.m. near The Well at CSUS, 6000 J St. Go to thewell.csus.edu/5k for more information.

Carnival through Sunday in North Sacramento

A spring carnival, co-sponsored by the Del Paso Boulevard Partnership, continues in the Rite Aid/O’Reilly’s parking lot at Del Paso Boulevard at El Camino Avenue, Sacramento. The event, which features rides and games, continues through Sunday. A portion of the proceeds will be used for beautification projects along Del Paso Boulevard. Event times are 3 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Weekly farmers market returns

UC Davis Health System’s weekly farmers market returns Thursday, offering fresh fruits and vegetables, prepared foods and specialty items. There will also be music, cooking demonstrations and other activities. The market is scheduled Thursdays through Oct. 27. Go to ucdmc.ucdavis.edu✔ for more information.
