Debate, reception for candidates

The Del Paso Boulevard Partnership, in conjunction with the North Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, hosts a reception and debate for the Sacramento City Council District 2 and Twin Rivers Unified School District board of trustees Area 7 candidates running in the June primary. District 2 council candidates Sondra Betancourt, Gregory Jefferson and Allen Warren are scheduled to attend. Area 7 candidates Linda Fowler, Francisco R. Garcia and Daniel Savala are also scheduled to take part. The Twin Rivers debate begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Artisan Building, 1901 Del Paso Blvd., Sacramento. There will be a 6:45 p.m. reception; the District 2 debate begins at 7:15 p.m. Call 916-923-6200 for more information.

Fair Oaks Boulevard topic of open house

Residents can share their views about the Fair Oaks Boulevard Complete Streets Project (Howe Avenue to Munroe Street) at an open house meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Sierra Oaks K-8 School, 171 Mills Road, Sacramento. According to Sacramento County officials, the project will develop a multimodal streetscape master plan and construct two signalized pedestrian crossings on Fair Oaks Boulevard.

Citrus Heights council to meet

The Citrus Heights City Council meets at 7 p.m. at the Citrus Heights Community Center, 6300 Fountain Square Drive. Go to www.citrusheights.net for more information.

Bike fest at state Capitol

As part of “May Is Bike Month,” new and seasoned bicyclists, including families, young adults and commuters, are invited to attend the free Capitol Bike Fest festivities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the west steps of the state Capitol. Representatives from area bike shops and clubs are attending. There is also free yoga for cyclists, a free valet bike parking and quick-fix maintenance.

Things to do

▪ If English is your second language, the Conversation Club allows people to practice their English speaking skills, learn about American culture and meet people from other cultures and countries, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Roseville Public Library, 225 Taylor St.
