Breezy start to weekend
A warm, breezy day is forecast for Sacramento. The area should feature partly sunny skies, with a high near 75 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph is expected during the day, the weather service reports.
Pacific Rim Fest at Southside Park
The 23rd Pacific Rim Street Fest returns to celebrate and showcase the Asian Pacific Islander cultures from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Southside Park, 2115 Sixth St., Sacramento. The free event features entertainment on multiple stages, food, arts, crafts and community outreach booths. Go to http://pacificrimstreetfest.com for more information.
Explore Fire Station 6
Station 6 of the Sacramento Fire Department hosts a free open house for residents from 2 to 4 p.m. at 3301 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Visitors can meet firefighters and medics, tour the station and take a close look at the trucks, engines, ambulances, equipment and gear.
Attention, Freeport Boulevard drivers
The Sacramento Police Department plans a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint beginning at 7:30 p.m. and lasting five to seven hours at Freeport Boulevard near 35th Avenue. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol or drug impairment with officers checking drivers for proper licensing.
Ride, read at library
A Bike Safety Fair and summer reading kickoff is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library, 7340 24th St. Bypass, Sacramento. Police bike officers and Mayor Pro Tem Larry Carr are among those scheduled to attend. Asheba, a children’s Caribbean folk entertainer, will perform live music.
Roseville police host open house
The Roseville Police Department sponsors a free open house from 9 a.m. to noon at 1051 Junction Blvd. The public can tour the department, watch demonstrations and examine police vehicles. There will also be booths with information about community resources and a children’s fun zone across the driveway at the Roseville Police Activities League.

- The Sacramento Geranium Club is hosting its annual sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Shepard Garden and Art Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd., Sacramento. Free entry.
