Today in Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Monday

Work on Capitol Mall overcrossing

The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists that local street lane restrictions are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Capitol Mall overcrossing to Tower Bridge due to highway construction. The work is part of a $13.5 million project by Caltrans and the city of Sacramento known as the I-5 Riverfront Reconnection Project that will provide improved connections to the riverfront near Old Sacramento, the Crocker Art Museum and Capitol Mall.

LGBT lobby day planned

The LGBT organization Equality California will hold its lobby day, providing the latest opportunity to contrast California with other states. Advocates will be speaking in support of a measure to make single-stall bathrooms all-gender, which legislators specifically framed as a break with states such as North Carolina, and a bill prohibiting state employees from government-funded travel to states with discriminatory laws. Expected to attend a 10:45 a.m. rally on the south steps of the state Capitol are openly gay lawmakers including Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, and Assembly members Toni Atkins, D-San Diego; Rich Gordon, D-Menlo Park; and Evan Low, D-Campbell.

Land Park Drive. Refreshments will be served during the tea break. The tour begins at the zoo’s front gate. Go to www.saczoo.org for more information.
