High pressure over the west coast is expected to bring above normal temperatures through the weekend in the Sacramento region.

However, area residents must first deal with Friday morning’s dense fog. Visibility was down to an eighth of a mile around Sacramento International and Mather airports before the sun came up.

Very poor visibility was reported in many areas in the Sacramento region, according to the National Weather Service. Patchy dense fog could make driving hazardous, especially along Interstate 5 in Sacramento County, forecasters warned.

Dry, warm weather is forecast for the weekend thanks to a persistent high pressure system. No rain is forecast for either Saturday or Sunday.

The normal high for Sacramento in late January is 55 degrees. However, Saturday and Sunday afternoon maximum temperatures could hit 10 degrees above normal.

The potential for some wet weather still exists for Tuesday and Wednesday but chances of significant precipitation are diminishing, according to NWS forecasters.
