Sacramento will see some sunshine today as the morning fog pulls out.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high temperature of 60 degrees for downtown.

“The sun should come out,” said weather service forecaster Jason Clapp. “But the fog is pretty expansive, going all the way to Chico. It takes a while for that to gradually erode.”

The dense morning fog is the result of heavy moisture that gets trapped in the Central Valley.

“There’s nothing to mix it out, so it keeps forming at night,” he said.

The fog, however, will not bring any precipitation aside from the occasional sprinkle, which Clapp called “insignificant.” The next chance of rain in the Sacramento region will come Tuesday.
