Kudos to: Students and teachers at Maeola R. Beitzel Elementary School
Accomplishment: Made ornaments for a sale to benefit animals
Details: Before Christmas break, students produced 150 ornaments. The ornaments were sold to family members and friends, raising $1,000. Proceeds were donated to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Kudos to: Kenneth Fat, Sacramento dentist
Accomplishment: Marks 50th anniversary of his dental practice
Details: Fat Dentistry, established in 1964, has served generations in the same families. Fat, the son of late Sacramento restaurant owner Frank Fat, said he went into dentistry, in part, because he hated washing dishes.
Kudos to: Bike-building volunteers
Accomplishment: Built bikes for 50 deserving youngsters
Details: The North Natomas Transportation Management Association’s “50 Bikes for 50 Kids” effort provided bicycles to youths who have strong moral character and make positive contributions. More than 200 volunteers from businesses, local organizations and the bicycling community helped mentor the young people while building the bikes with them.
