3-day Italian fest in Sutter Creek
The Italian Benevolent Society of Amador County will host its annual Italian Picnic and Parade for three days beginning Friday at the Italian Picnic Grounds in Sutter Creek, 581 Highway 49. The event includes a spaghetti-eating contest. Since 1882, the society – after Italians immigrated to avoid being drafted into Italy’s army during a time of turmoil – has put on a picnic and parade celebrating Italian food, wine and song. The event launches at 5 p.m. Friday with live music, bocce tournaments and games until midnight. The celebration continues from noon to midnight Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. At 6 p.m. Friday, there will be tastings from 14 wineries, two breweries and various olive oil companies. Admission is $20 and includes appetizers. ‘Taste of Fair Oaks’ at country club
A Taste of Fair Oaks, the 23rd annual food, wine and microbrew tasting event, takes place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the North Ridge Country Club, 7600 Madison Ave. Sponsored by the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce, the event features food and beverages from area restaurants, wineries and regional microbreweries. Recycling thrift store debuts
The Yolo County Community Services Department, Integrated Waste Management Division, hosts the grand opening of the Big Blue Recycling Barn Thrift Store beginning at 8:30 p.m. The store at the Yolo County Central Landfill, 44090 County Road 28H in Woodland, opens to the public at 9 a.m. after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The store will initially be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday, then is planned to be open the first weekend of each month. Go to www.yolocounty.org for more information.
