Warm – but watch the wind
The weather will stay sunny in the Sacramento area, but it is expected to be breezy. The high temperature should hit around 89 degrees, with north northwest winds forecast increasing to 13 mph to 18 mph in the morning, according to the National Weather Service. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph, the weather service reports.
DART fundraiser near Crawdads
The second Paddle 4 DART fundraiser is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Sacramento River at Crawdads on the River, 1375 Garden Highway, Sacramento. Sponsored by Riverbank Marina, Crawdads and FLOW Stand Up Paddle, the gathering features two stand-up paddleboard events, a solo race course and a team relay. All proceeds benefit the Drowning Accident Rescue Team, an all-volunteer organization that helps with water safety and education in the Sacramento area.
Beer event benefits diabetes group
The Brew for a Cure fundraiser benefiting for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. at William Land Park, 3800 Land Park Drive, Sacramento. Scheduled are beer tasting for adults, food trucks and live music by The Nickel Slots. Proceeds support the JRDF and its mission to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. Open house at Fire Station 5
Station 5 of the Sacramento Fire Department hosts a free open house for residents from 2 to 4 p.m. at 731 Broadway. Visitors can meet firefighters and medics, tour the station and take a close look at the trucks, engines, ambulances, equipment and gear. The event is part of the Fire Station Open House series.
Pops in the Park features jazz band
Sacramento City Councilman Jeff Harris hosts Pops in the Park, a free concert series in parks in the council’s District 3 area every Saturday in June. Saturday’s concert, featuring Beth Duncan Swing’n Jazz Band, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Bertha Henschel Park, 160 45th St. Concertgoers are asked not to bring canopies or umbrellas because they block people’s views. Things to do
▪ The classic rock horn band On Air is the headliner at the free Carmichael Concerts in the Park event at 6:30 p.m. at the Daniel Bishop Memorial Pavilion at Carmichael Park, 5750 Grant Ave. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Local sports
▪ Cal Expo is the only location in the Sacramento region where the public can officially place wagers on the Belmont Stakes. Doors open at 8 a.m. The third leg of racing’s Triple Crown begins at 3:32 p.m.
