A historic lakefront ranch that has hosted the famous through the decades is for sale in Lake Tahoe for $98 million.
If the luxurious 133-acre Shakespeare Ranch in Glenbrook, Nev., fetches its asking price, it would be the highest-priced residential sale in Lake Tahoe history, according to the owner’s agents. The ranch, along more than 400 feet of shoreline, is reportedly the largest lakefront property on the Lake Tahoe market.
The ranch has hosted politicians and celebrities for more than a century. Entertainers in recent years have performed in the ranch’s 1870s-era 5,000-square-foot rehabilitated barn.
The estate has been the home of the benefit Glenbrook Rodeo. Past headliners have included former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the late comedian-actor Robin Williams and singer Lionel Richie.
Shakespeare Ranch, named after a rock monolith on the property said to resemble the English playwright, has 17 guest homes, 25 bedrooms, 25 bathrooms and 13 kitchens. During celebrity events at the ranch, chef Emeril Lagasse frequently cooks in one of the kitchens.
Also included is an indoor pool house, horse stables, a greenhouse and a root cellar converted into an underground wine and tap room.
The owners, Larry and Camille Ruvo, have listed the property to move closer to their children on the East Coast. It is only the second time the property has been offered for sale since 1861.
