New draft flood maps for Placer

A community open house to learn more about FEMA’s new draft flood maps for Placer County is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m in the Reception Hall of Maidu Community Center, 1550 Maidu Drive, Roseville. Representatives from FEMA, Placer County and the city of Roseville will explain the map changes, answer questions and provide information about the National Flood Insurance Program. El Dorado fair begins in Placerville

“Cowboys and Carousels” is the theme of the El Dorado County Fair, which begins a four-day run in Placerville. Event times at the El Dorado Fair and Event Center are noon to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. El Dorado Transit will provide free shuttle service from 11:30 a.m. to midnight Thursday and Friday; 9:30 a.m. to midnight to midnight Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Shuttles will be available from the county library and government center parking lots on Fair Lane in Placerville and at Walmart on Missouri Flat and Forni roads. Comfort Kit Drive continues

Soroptimist International of Rancho Cordova and Gold River, partnering with Women Escaping a Violent Environment, is sponsoring a Comfort Kit Drive. Essentials, such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant and other new items can be dropped off in the designated bin in the Rancho Cordova City Hall lobby, 2729 Prospect Park Drive.   • The California State Library and Sacramento Juneteenth Inc. present a Night at the State Library, a reception recognizing Sacramento’s celebration of the emancipation of slaves. The evening will feature a Chefs Challenge Cooking Contest. The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at California State Library Fragrance Garden, 900 N St., Sacramento.
