Elk Grove council meets
The Elk Grove City Council meets at 6 p.m. at 8400 Laguna Palms Way. Among the items to be discussed is the council considering approval of a conditional loan commitment of $5 million for the proposed Bow Street Apartments affordable housing project. Go to www.elkgrovecity.org for more information.
Forum for potential volunteers
Volunteers seeking experiences locally and abroad are invited to a free panel discussion featuring representatives from the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps and City Year. The event is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Arden-Dimick Library, 891 Watt Ave., Sacramento. NCCC offers 10-month work service programs throughout the United States. City Year volunteers work in classrooms around the United States to help students achieve academic excellence. Peace Corps volunteers work in a variety of international development programs in more than 60 host countries around the world.
Rio Vista Bridge project
The state Department of Transportation is hosting a community meeting to share information about two Rio Vista Bridge preservation projects and how they will affect motorists and community members. The meeting is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Rio Vista City Hall, One Main St., and will include a brief Power Point presentation. Caltrans staff will answer questions and discuss the two proposed projects in which construction is expected to cover a six-year period.
Things to do
▪ A photo exhibit featuring the practice of Falun Dafa is planned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday on the north lawn of the state Capitol, 1100 L St. The photo exhibit will display a collection of photos and posters. Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a traditional Chinese cultivation practice of meditation and gentle exercises.
